What is Eyrie?
Eyrie is a free community app for following Jackie & Shadow, the bald eagles at Big Bear Lake, California. Get real-time nest updates, watch live streams, and never miss a moment.
Is the app free?
Yes! Eyrie is completely free with no ads, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases.
Do I need an account?
No account is required for most core viewing features. Today, sign-in is mainly needed for push notifications and account management. We may also require an account for future community features such as posting.
Where does the nest data come from?
Nest events are parsed from publicly available volunteer observations posted to a shared Google Doc maintained by the eagle-watching community.
How do notifications work?
Choose your notification level in Settings: Everything (all nest events), Important (switcheroos, deliveries, visitors), or Critical only (hatch, fledge, emergencies). You can also set quiet hours to pause notifications during specific times.
What do the abbreviations mean?
Tap any term in the Glossary to see what it means. Common ones: PS = Position Shift, OSD = On Side of Dish, LS = Left Side, FP = Food Place.
The live stream isn't loading. What do I do?
First, check your internet connection. Try switching between Nest Cam and Wide View. Close and reopen the app. If issues persist, the stream may be temporarily offline.
